Nice Paintings of Shit Places
This is a project I started working on in January 2024. The UK is particularly bleak and grey at this time of year and I set out to paint the greyest corners in the brightest colours. I travelled around the UK looking for beauty in all the places that we normally overlook. Doctors’ waiting rooms, bus-stops, service stations, Wetherspoons. You name it I went there.
I made a video for each place to explain my thoughts and how I found the most optimistic viewpoint, which were all posted on social media.
I self-published a book of the first 30 paintings, but the project is far from over and I’m still painting as many awful places as I can find.
